What the gurus are saying

This sheer tint creates the 'skin but better' finish that sets it apart, evening redness and minor imperfections while maintaining a barely-there look. It's lightweight and glowy, making it perfect for minimal-makeup days or anyone wanting a simple, natural complexion. Its rich, emollient formula may not work well layered under heavy under-eye products; shade and undertone matching also deserve attention as these vary.

"I'm going to apply a little bit of skin tint from Summer Fridays. This is one of my favorite skin tints."

"Summer Fridays Sheer Skin Tint is another skin tint that I've been so excited to try. I've heard a lot about it. It is a complexion product with tint."
10 Most Popular Skin Tints of 2024 for Mature Skin! (Reviewed & Ranked)
"It really does give that sheer skin-like finish that I expect of a skin tint finish. [...] It's radiant, gives a healthy glow, and it's not overly shiny or tacky. The texture [...] spreads beautifully, it's very lightweight, it's beautiful on the skin, you don't even feel like you have it on."
NEW VIRAL Peter Thomas Roth FIRMX Under Eye HACK! (Lift Bags/Tighten Under Eyes + 5 MINUTE MAKEUP)
"I was going to come in with Summer Fridays Sheer Skin Tint but this is a very emollient complexion product and I'm worried that it's going to break up the seal that the Peter Thomas Roth made in my under eye area and cause it to basically break up and not hold the firmness that it's created."

"How is that supposed to be a tint for pale skin? That's one. How am I, what am I supposed to do with that color? I don't get it. I don't understand it, doesn't make any sense. [...] To be fair, the Summer Fridays one is way closer to my skin tone than this one, but still I just don't understand why we want a skin tint to tint our skin the wrong undertone or the wrong color. I know how that's faster, I don't know how that's better. Doesn't make any sense. I don't get it."

"This is just such a nice sheer tint that just kind of evens out a little bit of rosacea for me. I like that it's very natural. I like how you can still see a bit of redness in my skin."

"This was a go-to for me in the springtime. It literally just looks like your skin but better, it's perfect for no makeup makeup days. This is the shade one, it has really light coverage but it's not so light that you don't notice a difference. I love this stuff. If you're looking for a really nice, actual proper skin tint that gives a healthy veil and glow and slight tint to the skin, check this one out, it's so pretty."
~Nay
"It doesn't look terrible it doesn't look great either. [...] The finish on this is a little more luminous than I'd like and even though this is supposed to be self-setting it is luminous. It's just like separating on top, it's balling and pilling all over my face. It's not blending into my skin. As a tinted moisturizer goes I don't love this just because it was so finicky and didn't play well with a lot of my other things. It looks so terrible, so crusty looking, really bad really like ick."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
