What the gurus are saying

This gel-based moisturizer earns consistent praise for feeling hydrating and lightweight without residue, making it a natural fit for oily and combination skin. Gurus point out that urea works as a natural moisturizing factor that supports the barrier, and note it has a secondary benefit for those with eczema, rough patches, or irritation, as it can help soften and calm these areas over time. The price sits around 20 pounds, which reviewers see as accessible for the hydration you get.

"Urea is a great hydrating ingredient for skin. I also love their AHA acid serum, the rose hip oil, I have no idea what happened with that it's not on Sephora site any longer, and their CoQ10 Serum is great. Some of their cleansers are nice. They've got a lot of products that people absolutely love and a really nice selection. I wish they kept a few more of their base products because I really liked them, especially like the rose hip oil. [...] This one's 20 bucks."

"If you just want to start super simple, The INKEY List has a 10% Urea online. [...] A 10 to 20% would probably be tolerated okay on the arms."

"They came out with this a couple of years ago and I fell in love with it immediately. As a moisturizer, I think it will really suit folks who are a little bit on the oily side, they want something a little bit lighter. This is not the heavy rich creams I've been talking about all video long. So if you have oily skin or combination skin that leans oily, I think you'll like this. If you have more of a balanced or a normal skin type, I think you'll like this as well."

"For moisturizer I'm using The INKEY List 10% Urea moisturizer, which is really for dry skin. My skin isn't that dry, but even in spring it can get really cold sometimes, and at night I like something richer. It has a thicker texture than you'd think initially, but it spreads easily, and yes it's shiny, but it really leaves my skin plump and hydrated."

"I brought The Inkey List Super Solutions 10% Urea Moisturizer, mainly to use before my tretinoin at night, because it's just deeply hydrating. It's not that hot here so I can still get away with using it, but it's probably not one I would reach for in the summer."

"I am obsessed with this product, and to be honest I'm surprised that there aren't more brands out there with higher strength urea. We often see urea, you know, with other ingredients as part of a moisturizer, but to have urea as like the main star, I haven't seen a lot, and thank you to them for making that because urea is such a great ingredient that is so underrated."

    What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

    Urea

Urea both holds water in the skin and gently loosens dead surface cells. At higher strengths it has good evidence for very dry or thickened skin.

    Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
