What the gurus are saying

These patches blend nearly invisibly into all skin tones thanks to their ultra-thin, ultra-matte formula, which sets them apart from other hydrocolloid options. The hydrocolloid core absorbs fluid from the pimple while salicylic acid works to unplug the pore, and added actives like sumic acid and ectoin address redness and skin sensitivity at the same time. Best applied to clean, dry skin and left on for at least four hours or overnight for the strongest effect.

"By doing this you're going to prevent acne scarring, you're going to prevent inflammation and infection. This one from the INKEY List is really nice because this contains 99% hydrocolloid but it also contains some other additional ingredients to help heal the blemish a lot faster. There's 0.4% salicylic acid, 0.4% succinic acid, and 0.2% ectoin for hydration, and it really helps to heal the area, it helps to expel any oil, and it's wonderful."

"I like these a lot because there are three other ingredients in here that treat the area at the same time, which I honestly haven't used a hydrocolloid patch that contains these additional ingredients, and I just feel like it's more beneficial. This has 0.4% salicylic acid, so this ingredient helps to exfoliate the pore, gets rid of all of that dirt and gunk that could lead to breakouts, but also it can help to reduce pore size."

"These are pimple patches from The INKEY List. They're made of hydrocolloid material and that is what sucks up the juice right from the pimples and help drain it and flatten them. However these are also treated with salicylic acid and so that is the chemical exfoliant that can get a little bit deeper into the pore and to help work as like a spot treatment to further help draw the pimple up to the surface or help to heal it down."

"These patches are really unique to me because they are more invisible on the skin than any other patches that I have tried. They have invisible technology that helps the patch instantly blur the appearance of the pimple underneath. They are ultra thin and ultra matte and that allows it to blend in all skin tones so that they are undetectable. This patch is made of hydrocolloid which is a hyper absorptive material that draws the gunk out of the pimple."

    What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

    Salicylic acid

Salicylic acid dissolves in oil, so it can get into a pore rather than just working on the surface. That is why it has long-standing evidence for blackheads and milder acne.
