What the gurus are saying

This primer tends to pill and peel on skin, especially over a full skincare routine, and both reviewers found it broke them out despite the grip it does provide for makeup wear. The high silicone content caused enough irritation that neither felt it was worth the trouble of scaling back their skincare to make it work.

"I don't think I used either of them more than a couple of times because they just didn't work that well. They tend to peel on the skin, they balled up. They did have a certain grip and tackiness to them so great for making sure your makeup really sticks, but beyond that they just weren't that easy to use. I also found that because both of them have quite a lot of dimethicone and silicones in them, they broke me out."

"I never liked this product. [...] It always pilled with my skincare products and sometimes it did peel with certain makeup formulations that I applied on top of it. [...] Once I applied all of my skincare products and then I applied that primer before my makeup, peeling everything just started balling off my skin because it has that silicone base. I am somebody that is not willing to eliminate a skincare routine just to use a makeup primer."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
