What the gurus are saying

Spraying it onto the back, chest and arms is the big draw, and its mix of brightening actives like tranexamic acid, kojic acid and alpha arbutin wins fans. However, the one dissenting take calls the formula sticky and irritating, and notes its citrus oils make it fragrant despite a fragrance-free label. That means those with fragrance allergies or sensitive skin may want to skip it.

"Topicals Faded is a pretty gentle body mist that you can spray on areas that you struggle with darker spots and it will target those hard-to-reach areas. The ingredients are pretty gentle and certainly I think can be used on a more regular basis as tolerated."

"They've got the Topicals Faded cream which most people have used, this is a mist which is meant to be used on the body and this one has additional beneficial ingredients. It's got a lot more beneficial ingredients than this one. It contains kojic acid, tranexamic acid, alpha arbutin, also contains niacinamide, licorice root, glycolic acid. It's a little bit more expensive but in the long run I think if you're really looking for real results this might be where you're going to have to land."

"If you're looking to fade hyperpigmentation and glow up the body, one of my favorite products is the Topicals Faded Mist. This mist is great because you can spray it on the back, on the chest, anywhere where you might have breakouts, great on the tops of the arms if you have any discoloration there. And this combines just about everything for fading hyperpigmentation and getting that even skin tone: you've got tranexamic acid, kojic acid, alpha-arbutin, and a super high dose of glutathione."

"This is called Faded and if you're struggling with body acne that leaves behind redness or dark marks of hyperpigmentation this is the absolute best choice. It's 32 dollars and it's a brightening and clearing mist that specifically has additional ingredients such as Alpha arbutin and tranexamic acid that can stop pigmentation in its tracks. It also has niacinamide and licorice root which [...] are great for pigmentation as well as glycolic acid to actually help exfoliate the skin."

"They feel very sticky and the sticky residue doesn't go away - it's almost like you have sprayed yourself with spray adhesive. [...] I was optimistic about trying it, thinking it would be like other spray-on lotions but with active ingredients for hyperpigmentation such as niacinamide, kojic acid, arbutin, tranexamic acid, glutathione which is an antioxidant, licorice root, and glycolic acid. [...] But overall the formula [...] was really sticky, felt like glue, and it was irritating."

Topicals FADED & LIKE BUTTER REVIEW // Dermatologist @DrDrayzday
"I didn't care for this. It also has fragrance with bergamot, lavender, and lemon peel, but it's marketed as fragrance-free, which is misleading because citrus oils are definitely fragrant. [...] If you're allergic to fragrance, you have to avoid this because fragrance can lead to irritation that worsens hyperpigmentation. I would definitely say this is a skip - I would not recommend it. It's not moisturizing at all and left my skin feeling itchy and uncomfortable."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Alpha hydroxy acids

Alpha hydroxy acids loosen the bonds holding dead cells at the surface. The evidence supports smoother texture and more even tone over time, and they can leave skin more sensitive to sun.

Tranexamic acid

Tranexamic acid has a growing body of clinical evidence for melasma and the stubborn patches of pigment that other ingredients struggle with.
