What the gurus are saying

This laser delivers long-term hair reduction for at-home use, though reviewers note it works best for light skin and dark hair. Those with darker skin tones may find it less effective at detecting hair. Even in ideal cases, it slows growth rather than eliminating it completely, so most people still need to shave occasionally. The safety-first design that enables at-home use also limits how powerful it is compared to professional treatments.

"I love IPL and laser. [...] You can invest in the Tria laser hair removal system at home if you want to do it in the comfort of your own house."

"For laser hair removal, [...] this Tria [...] is great for small areas like eyebrow lines or bikini line things like that where the area is not very large. [...] After you get the area you want treated for a few months, a few routines, it doesn't come back anymore. I got this one off eBay for a hundred bucks when they're normally like four or five hundred dollars new. [...] This one worked very well just for small areas."

"The Tria is very small so you really can only use it on small areas and it requires light skin and dark hair. It has a thing where you have to put it on your skin for it to turn on, so it says locked, and then if you have light enough skin, if your skin is too dark it's not going to turn on because it could damage your skin."

"It's also hard to see where you've been before, hard to know if you overlapped or if you need to make it a little tighter. But overall, this is going to be much more effective for you. It's probably the premier option for at-home hair removal right now, especially in terms of long-term results. If you're looking for at-home laser hair removal, this is a phenomenal option."

"I was sent the Tria 4X Advanced Laser Hair Removal Second Generation. This is a relaunch of the laser they had, which I haven't tried, but you might remember I've tried two of these devices already, the one from Derma Wand Rays and the one from CurrentBody, and I kept using the one from CurrentBody, but it's still not at the point where I don't need to shave anymore. They slow down my hair growth, but I still need to shave like once a week for different reasons."
