What the gurus are saying

This tint divides reviewers on whether it delivers what a skin tint should do. One expert found it wears beautifully throughout the day with a pleasing finish, but another felt it misses the mark, lacking the signature sheer, skin-showing effect that makes a tint different from heavier coverage. The product may work best on its own rather than layered with other BFF products from the same line.

"I thought it looked really nice and thought it wore really, really well throughout the day. The color was a great match for me. I would definitely recommend this BFF D-Stress over the Jones Road foundation. This was just all around a nicer product, wore longer, didn't dry back my face, didn't feel greasy all day, and it looked nice on my skin. If I'm remembering, I think it might have settled in my wrinkles a little bit, but not in a dry-looking, cracked sort of way. It is highly fragrance."

"I got to say I like both the BFF Serum D-Stress and I like the BFF Cream SPF 30. I don't like them together, but I do like them separately."

"My second least favorite is the Trinny London skin tint. The reason is this really doesn't act like a skin tint. You don't get that veiled effect that you want with the skin poking through. It's fairly heavy coverage and of course it has the fragrance, which really isn't my preference, and I just felt like it really didn't live up to the name of a skin tint."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Urea

Urea both holds water in the skin and gently loosens dead surface cells. At higher strengths it has good evidence for very dry or thickened skin.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
