What the gurus are saying

The formula includes multiple vitamin C sources and nourishing ingredients like sea buckthorn oil that some gurus appreciate. However, the citrus peel extract here may trigger irritation, particularly for those with fragrance sensitivities or existing skin reactivity, and the vitamin C stability and actual efficacy remain uncertain, meaning people with sensitive skin may want to patch-test first, or skip it if citrus extracts have bothered them before. Price is steep at fifty-eight dollars for one ounce.

"It's a really nice product. The only downside is that at regular price it's a little expensive, [...] a little steep in my opinion, but it's a very nice product."

"My pick was the Tula Triple C vitamin drops. It's got three different types of vitamin C in it. It's really expensive when it first came out I debated picking it up and then after looking at the price I'm like you know what that's pretty expensive. I love the Geek and Gorgeous C Glow, it's always right here handy, so I didn't pick it up. But on sale I think it might be worth a whirl, so that one might be one worth checking out."

"The Tula Brightening Treatment Drops Triple Vitamin C Serum is $58 for 1 ounce and this one contains ethyl ascorbic acid, esculetin glucoside, glutathione, and aurbic acid."

"Tula has a vitamin C that anchors on ethyl ascorbic acid, a particularly stable form with good clinical data behind it. It's coupled with some probiotics, prebiotics, some antioxidants. I would say this is just extremely robust vitamin C, and normally at a good price point of $58, and then 30% off, that's around $40. Strong vitamin C, I think it's a good deal."

"This has sea buckthorn oil in it, which is an emollient that I actually rather enjoy in skincare products. My reservations with vitamin C make this a product that I'm skeptical about. With vitamin C serums, you really just never know if they're actually going to end up working out or doing anything for you, and if anything they can end up being a lot more irritating."

"I do like some products from Tula, but in all truth, this triple vitamin C serum is not one of my personal favorites. It uses ethyl ascorbic acid, and the catch with vitamin C derivatives like this one is there's just not the body of literature supporting them. This isn't to say they don't work, I do believe they work for some people, but I think it's worth trying L-ascorbic acid first before you try the derivatives."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Vitamin C

Topical vitamin C is an antioxidant with reasonable evidence for dullness and uneven tone. It breaks down in light and air, so how a product is formulated and packaged matters as much as the percentage on the front.

Alpha hydroxy acids

Alpha hydroxy acids loosen the bonds holding dead cells at the surface. The evidence supports smoother texture and more even tone over time, and they can leave skin more sensitive to sun.
