What the gurus are saying

This mineral sunscreen earns praise for its peptide technology and less drying feel compared to zinc oxide formulations, making it appealing for mature skin. However, gurus split on mineral sunscreens more broadly: one reviewer found it less drying than alternatives but questions whether it's truly 100% mineral given its booster ingredients, while another appreciates the formula but has moved away from mineral sunscreens entirely, preferring zinc oxide when mineral is needed for breakout-prone skin.

"It has volcanic water, but this also has peptides and vitamin C. I'd say this is a good one for my mature patients because of the peptide technology. Peptides help increase collagen production by being a cell signaler. The lightweight texture of this wins. [...] A little thicker than the Lancôme, but again, very lightweight. Doesn't peel on the face. I brought this one to Vegas because this one is quite portable and it comes in a nice convenient airtight pump and does not feel heavy at all."

"Here's an example of a broad spectrum SPF 60 product from Vichy that has 14.8% titanium dioxide. I like this one, I don't find it as drying as zinc oxide, which is practically to be expected. Although it's funny, after explaining all that about booster ingredients like butyloctyl salicylate, this one is labeled a 100% mineral sunscreen, but is it really."

"I finished another of this sunscreen, it's a product that I've really enjoyed but I don't think I'm going to buy it again. I find myself moving away from mineral more and more, and if I am going to use mineral because I'm experiencing time of the month breakouts, I'm going to go for zinc oxide at this point."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
