What the gurus are saying

Think of it as the Mineral 89 serum in cream form, rich and hydrating yet light enough to absorb quickly, and the fragrance-free version gets a warm welcome for sensitive skin. One critical take, after about three weeks of on-and-off use, found skin felt tight and dry almost instantly, while another take found the texture a little too rich to apply first. That means it may suit the last step of your routine best.

"I really love the fact that this is a rich emulsion cream but still lightweight and fast absorbing and cosmetically elegant. Ingredient-wise it contains hyaluronic acid, bee's mineral-rich volcanic water, niacinamide, vitamin E, and squalane. It's fragrance-free so really great if you have sensitive skin and dry skin. And with the formula and the finish it's suitable for morning and evening."

"Essentially this is like the Mineral 89 serum but in a moisturizer. I love it. It comes in a rich cream in a lighter version as well as fragrance and fragrance-free version. This is the non-fragrance version. It's a rich cream that is very hydrating and nourishing, and I find that for this formula it's a little bit too nourishing to use as the first layer of moisturizer, but I just love it. It's just perfect enough to use as the last step of the routine."

"I have absolutely loved this product for the richness, for how hydrating and nourishing it has been. I really have enjoyed it for the hydrating texture, for the nourishment it's provided, and the fact that it's fragrance free. It's great for sensitive skin. It contains Vichy's 15 mineral volcanic water that we know have soothing, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant benefits. It also has vitamin B3, vitamin E, and zinc, and all together that just really makes a great moisturizer."

"I really have been loving this one from Vichy so Mineral 89 is one of my favorite hydrating serums and Vichy now has Mineral 89 based moisturizer and it comes in two versions one is a rich cream that's more of a gel cream absorbs very quickly it does not feel sticky heavy or tacky and also comes with a fragrance free version the rich cream does contain fragrance it's a light fragrance it's pretty pleasant I got this floral scent so it doesn't really bother me."

"This is something that I recently just started using and I am very impressed with this. This formulation has niacinamide there, there's also squalane in here, hyaluronic acid as well as Vitamin E. So this formula is very plumping in my opinion. So if you like creams that are plumping then you will love this. Put this onto damp skin and this is going to allow this to absorb better into the skin which will give you more of that plumper look. [...] This is also fragrance-free."

"It's not a gel cream, I'd say this is like a lightweight cream, like a true lightweight cream. They have two versions, one is fragranced and one is fragrance free. The fragrance free version is what I'm using because I struggle with an allergic reaction. And there's the Vichy volcano water in it which, you know, it sounds gimmicky but it's got data behind it. I think it does add a layer of fun flair, but I think it actually does add some soothing."

"Everyone needs this product. It's for all skin types from dry to oily, sensitive or rosacea prone skin, and you can use it all year round. [...] This is a hybrid serum moisturizer product with a super simple ingredients list of only 11 ingredients. [...] Hyaluronic acid is the hero ingredient here as well as French volcanic water with essential minerals. The best thing about this product is the way it feels on the skin."

"For me this is the Vichy Mineral 89 72-Hour Moisture Boosting Cream. [...] I've been using it on and off for about three weeks and I [...] had to stop using this because for a 72-hour moisture boosting cream I felt very tight and dry almost instantly. [...] It's got hyaluronic acid, squalane, vitamin B3 and E, lipids and their volcanic mineral water in here, but it just feels very normal."

"It's already giving me such a nice glow. I love the glow this has given my skin. It's been a couple of hours and my skin is still looking hydrated and plump. I am obsessed. This is a hundred percent gonna be added to my skincare routine. I absolutely love the serum version of this, one of my favorite serums of all time. Having very dry skin after that cleanser, this feels already so nicely moisturizing and hydrating. It slips over the skin so easily."

"I genuinely do love this moisturizer. It's really lovely. It's Mineral 89, which is like their hero serum but in the cream form, so it goes on as a moisturizer. It's got niacinamide in it, bit of squalene, lots of hydration. It's perfect for winter months or if you just are having a bit of a rough time through the winter and you just need a moisturizer, or maybe your sunscreen isn't [...] moisturizing you enough."

    What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

    Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

    Source: DermNet

    Salicylic acid

Salicylic acid dissolves in oil, so it can get into a pore rather than just working on the surface. That is why it has long-standing evidence for blackheads and milder acne.

    Source: DermNet

    Alpha hydroxy acids

Alpha hydroxy acids loosen the bonds holding dead cells at the surface. The evidence supports smoother texture and more even tone over time, and they can leave skin more sensitive to sun.
