"The one thing I didn't like about Dr. Althia is it had that waxy texture and hard to rinse feeling to it and this doesn't. This actually feels kind of like [...] it's a little bit silkier, a little bit meltier, a little bit thinner, less like coating your skin in an unpleasant way. And it removes makeup really, really nicely. I've only just started using this in the last couple of weeks, but I do feel like it is standing up [...] to the effectiveness of Beauty of Joseon."

"With grinding cleansing balm packaging, it's like the least messy and most sanitary form of getting your cleansing balm formula onto your skin. So, I do have to say I really like products that come in that packaging. For example, the VT Cosmetics PDRN Cleansing Balm is one of my favorites."

"I freaking love the results that this cleansing balm gives my skin. I always feel like my skin is so refreshed and hydrated afterwards. [...] The ingredients in this in addition to PDRN are awesome. It has PHA to exfoliate the skin, argan oil to really deeply nourish the skin, ceramides, it even has coffee extract, which I think is great for helping to awaken your skin as you're doing your nighttime skincare routine. [...] I've used this one for so long."

"The first one I actually used and fell in love with was the VT PDRN Grinding Cleansing Balm. [...] I really, really like it. I believe it's their newest product. It's my favorite [...] grinding cleansing balm."
The BEST Cleansers of 2025 🫧
"From a skin science and ingredient perspective, this is probably the best cleansing balm I have ever discovered, but the experience is also really nice. It's a nice moisturizing consistency that leaves your skin nourished after using it, but not overly greasy. It does an awesome job at removing makeup and sunscreen off of your face. It doesn't have that slip feel, but [...] this one is a little bit gentler on the skin because it doesn't have that granular consistency."

    What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

    Salicylic acid

Salicylic acid dissolves in oil, so it can get into a pore rather than just working on the surface. That is why it has long-standing evidence for blackheads and milder acne.

    Ceramides

Ceramides are part of the skin's own barrier, and moisturisers built around them have evidence for holding water in and settling the tightness and flaking that come with a damaged barrier.

    Source: DermNet

    Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
