What the gurus are saying

Thick, creamy and deeply moisturizing, this beeswax balm earns praise for softening dry patches, and its texture on lips gets special mention. The one thing to keep in mind: several gurus flag its essential oils and fragrance, which can irritate a broken or inflamed skin barrier, and it does not treat acne. Lip basting, a thick layer on dry lips, is another use the experts bring up, but stop if anything stings.

"I love the Weleda Skin Food and it's so creamy and rich so you really only need a tiny bit in the areas where I feel like I get a little bit more dry under my makeup and for me that's around the nose that's under the eyes my eyes are really sensitive especially when I sleep they tear up and they get irritated so I feel like this actually really helps me a lot I like this."

"I love Weleda Skin Food, so using Weleda products and just like really non-brand organic face washes, yeah just make sure that my face is washed, make sure it's exfoliated in some way and then just putting that Weleda on. I am always carrying it around with me all the time and I find that you know as long as your [...] skin's properly moisturized, so if you've got that as a base..."

"When I was using it for a good couple of weeks, I noticed that my elbows and knuckles, which normally get a lot drier, were a lot more moisturized and the skin barrier was a lot better. It's got a thick base of pure plant oils and beeswax, and beeswax is fantastic for [...] an impaired skin barrier. In terms of the ingredients, it's a water-based formulation with sunflower seed oil, which is great, sweet almond oil, which is one of my favorites, as well as the beeswax."

"The Skin Food has some really great ingredients. [...] This is the $15 moisturizer from the drugstore that Gwyneth Paltrow has openly stated that she uses multiple times. [...] It's got things like sunflower seed oil. This is a thicker formula so this is better for dry skin. I personally won't be buying it because it does have both fragrance and Beeswax, but this is honestly quite comparable and quite good."

🫒 Olive Oil For Acne?! Esthetician Reacts To Chloë Grace Moretz’s Skincare Routine
"The Weleda Skin Food is the original ultra rich cream and it's actually quite inexpensive with good ingredients. But there's nothing in here that's going to actively fight acne. It has calendula which is great, but for someone with acne, this moisturizer doesn't support acne treatment. It also has perfume and limonene which are not ideal."

"Weleda Skin Food is one I would use in the winter. It's great, but [...] if you're really dry in a very dry climate or if you have lost moisture in your skin because you're postmenopausal or in the postpartum phase where your hormones are dropping, or you're even going through chemo, or if you have an inflamed skin barrier in addition to discoloration and you're just red and parched and cracked, there are better options."

"Weleda Skin Food is the occlusive of choice that I use. [...] It does sometimes get a little nauseating [...] because of all the essential oils in it, but [...] I use it every morning. [...] I also sometimes put it all over my face under my eyes or if it's really dry as the last step of my routine. It's $20 a box and it's easy."

"You can baste your lips and put a thick coating on your lips with this, but the only problem is it has essential oils, so you might get a little bit allergic to this product. I would say beware, approach with caution, and if you feel anything, stop it."

"For lip basting I use Weleda's Skin Food because I found that their texture is the best one that goes from a creamy balm to a nice hydrating oily effect without being an oil because it actually does hydrate your lips. I put a thick layer on and this is literally all I use, so one Weleda lasts me like a long time."
How To Repair Your Skin Barrier! | Dr. Shereene Idriss
"I love Skin Food especially for the lips when you have a broken lip because I really just like the texture. But Skin Food, for example, has essential oils and essential oils are not going to be your friend if you have a broken skin barrier because you might actually develop an allergy to it or become even more irritated so I would avoid the essential oils altogether."

"Weleda Skin Food is one of the staples. If you know me, you know that I love Weleda Skin Food. It [...] is a thick ointment that I absolutely love. There's a technique that I've termed called lip basting where we put a really thick layer of Weleda or an alternative on our lips and allow it to melt into the mucous membranes of our lips. [...] I love Weleda. It's one of those really tried and true products."
