What the gurus are saying

Pump it onto damp skin and it turns to a light foam that cleans well without leaving skin tight or dry. Reviewers use it on face and body alike, and for eczema-prone and very dry skin it earns its place in the shower, with hydration that holds up through the day. The caveat: it can fall short of favourite status when skin is at its driest in deep winter.

"La Roche-Posay Lipikar AP+ Gentle Foaming Cleansing Oil is one of my top picks for body eczema. It has this oil gel texture that reduces itch, restores lipids, and cleans without any aggravation. It's amazing for winter flares. It provides hydration, but also keeps you clean. It's really good for dry, eczema-prone skin. It's my two-in-one body and face wash. It provides long-lasting hydration, 24-hour moisture. And we really keep this in the shower most of the winter, all of us."

Say Goodbye to Dry Winter Skin: Dermatologist-Approved Bodycare Tips
"I love this cleanser. It foams up great. It's good for face and body, so you can remove makeup and wash your whole body with it. It provides deep hydration while doing a great job cleansing, and it provides 24-hour hydration. The formula is really gentle. It's an oil-to-foam body and face cleanser for really dry or extra dry, sensitive skin. It leaves the skin feeling soft and supple. It also helps protect skin from the harsh drying effects of water and helps prevent loss of hydration over time."

"In fact, I think my family and I have gone through like two bottles of it. I love it for myself and for my kids. It's just a lovely oil cleanser but that foams readily so you feel like you're getting a good cleanse but at the same time it is very gentle and does not strip your skin barrier. It's even been tested and suitable for individuals that have cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy because we know in those patients they tend to have more skin sensitivity and dryness."

"The Lipikar AP+ Gentle Foaming Cleansing Oil is really nice because it's got wonderful hydrating ingredients but foams ever so slightly, so for those individuals who just absolutely need a foaming cleanser in their routine this would be one to consider when switching to for the winter. [...] It can be used on face and body, and that's what I do in the shower. I use it on my kids as well, so it's really truly multi-functional."

"I'm pretty darn obsessed with this cleansing oil right now. It really is the only cleanser I've used for probably the last month and I just don't want to move on from it. [...] It's the perfect balance between a hydrating cleanser and it still has a decent amount of lather to it, so I don't feel like it leaves me greasy or oily at all. It's functionally very effective."

"Use a cleansing oil in the shower for optimal hydration. This one from La Roche-Posay, from the Lipikar line, [...] I use in the shower. It just gives another layer of hydration to the skin, and then when you get out within 30 seconds you are putting moisturizer on your skin and you are going to have optimal hydration even through the winter months."

"The L Roche-Posay Lipikar AP+ Gentle Foaming Cleansing Oil is probably one of the tougher ones because these are all great, they're all ones I've repurchased, and the winner is the L Roche-Posay Lipikar AP+ Gentle Foaming Cleansing Oil which is a new product this year. It's an amazing product, use it every day."

La Roche-Posay 🆕 New! Lipikar AP+ Gentle Foaming Cleansing Oil Review
"You can apply it to face or body. They recommend applying a pump of it to damp skin and it foams up really nicely and cleanses really cleanly. It rinses off nicely and doesn't leave your skin feeling dry in the least, which is really nice because lately I've been having to put body lotion on the second I get out of the shower, but this stuff just was amazing. The ingredients in here use some gentle cleansers. They use sodium laureth sulfate, which is different than sodium lauryl sulfate."

"It really works well both ways, and it's very gentle. My skin can get kind of dry, especially when it starts to get colder out. We've had some cold days and some very hot days, and this one is interesting because after I cleanse my body with it, I don't always feel like I need to use a moisturizer when I get out of the shower. Most of the time I get out of the shower and instantly moisturize because my skin feels dry, but I don't notice that at all with this one."

"Ranking number two is another La Roche Posay product, the Gentle Foaming Cleansing Oil. Pretty much everything I love about the Lipikar AP+ wash I love about this one too. It's a big bottle, good value, and I can use it in and out of the shower. [...] It's gentle on my skin and serves me really well, but it's not always my favorite in deep winter when my skin is really dry, which is really the only reason it's ranked number two instead of number one."

"So this is La Roche-Posay Lipikar AP+ Gentle Foaming Cleansing Oil. You've seen this from me before, and despite the name, there's actually no oil in it. It's not oil-based, and it's not a dedicated makeup remover. It's really just a foaming cleanser. The weird thing is there's no oil in the ingredients, so it's kind of a misleading name. It's really just referring to the fact that it's a gentle, moisturizing type of cleanser with a nice, gentle foam."

"I start out washing my face with La Roche-Posay Lipikar AP+ Gentle Foaming Cleansing Oil. This is just a foaming cleanser. It actually doesn't have any oil in it. It's a very confusing name."
THIS is What I Do Weekly for Bright & Glowy Skin!
"This is La Roche-Posay Lipikar AP+ Gentle Foaming Cleansing Oil. Unlike the name suggests, it's not a cleansing oil, but just a gentle moisturizing foaming cleanser. So this isn't necessarily like the oil cleanser or the balm cleanser that I use to remove my makeup. I find these names super confusing, especially because when you look at the ingredients list, there's no oil in this cleanser."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.
