What the gurus are saying

This sulfur cleanser wins praise for tackling redness and rosacea while avoiding the harsh smell and stripped feeling typical of sulfur products. The formula stacks sulfur with soothing actives (azelaic acid, shea, panthenol, aloe) that reviewers found reduce inflammation without harshness. Some apply it as a mask, letting a thick layer sit for a few minutes before rinsing.

HONEST Ranking of Prequel Skincare (Too Honest?)
"The Redness Reform Sulfur Cleanser is incredible for my skin type, dry, acne prone, and sensitive. The 2.5% colloidal sulfur is such a good alternative to some of the more harsh and intense acne fighting ingredients. The con is it does smell bad, but to me it doesn't smell as bad as the L-ascorbic acid serum. I love that you can use this as a regular cleanser or leave it on as a [...] quick mask, with colloidal sulfur, azelaic acid, cica, alpha bisabolol, panthenol, and aloe vera."
Best VALUE Skincare (& worst too!)
"I love this brand so much. I talked about how wonderful it is to use, I love that it has both azelaic acid and sulfur, and this plus an oil based cleanser could just be everything I would ever need in terms of cleansing. What's extra fun about it is you can use it as a mask too, let it sit on your skin for a bit and then rinse off, and you get even more benefits from the actives because it's gentler since you ultimately wash it off."
NEW Affordable Skincare & More! Prequel's Incredible Cleanser, Pixi, Fails from Good Molecules...
"I genuinely think this is better than the Kate Somerville sulfur cleanser, even with less of that sulfur ingredient, because I swear it smells better and doesn't have as much of a smell. [...] It feels like a gentle and yet thorough cleanser and has a lot of calming ingredients in it. It's absolutely lovely, and it's also a more inexpensive product to start with. [...] My skin does not feel too dry after using it."

"Since I started using these, my skin has been so much less red than is average for me. [...] The reason it works so well for rosacea-type skin is that it has sulfur, which is kind of one of those catch-all ingredients that can help a wide variety of skin conditions: acne, rosacea, perioral dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis. It also has azelaic acid. Do not sleep on azelaic acid. It's such a good ingredient for the skin, especially for redness-prone skin, and that's why it's in here."

"It's got a lot of soothing ingredients in it [...] and I've really enjoyed the cleansers I've tried from Prequel so far."
✓Yay
"You could use this as a morning cleanser or an evening cleanser. I've actually been loving using it in the morning because it sets my skin up to look its best throughout the day. [...] I'll take a pretty generous amount, work it into a rich lather, and then apply it to my face in the areas that I tend to get red, which is my cheeks, my nose, my chin, sometimes my forehead. And because this contains sulfur, I do keep it away from the eyes."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Azelaic acid

Azelaic acid has clinical evidence for both acne and rosacea, and it is one of the gentler options for calming redness while also working on marks left behind.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
