What the gurus are saying

Its soft, cushiony foam is the feature reviewers keep returning to, and many say it feels gentle. Dry and sensitive skin fare best, with several calling it one of the least stripping cleansers around. Oily and combo skin get a split verdict, with some finding the cleansing a little weak while others say it still does the job. A few found it left skin a little dry and tight, so a tiny amount goes a long way.

"A normal foam cleanser like SKIN1004 is a lot more affordable, so that is what I would buy instead of paying up for the trendy whipped cleanser and mask products."

"Great. This one is definitely gentle, when you foam it up and massage it it feels soft and cushiony on the skin. I'd recommend it for sensitive skin. That said, if you're oily or combo, the cleansing power might feel a little weak."

"This one goes right to the top for me. If you have sensitive skin and are really reluctant and scared to try anything else, try this. It's so easy to make bubbles with it, and remember you should only cleanse with the bubbles. It's affordable too, so why not."
Which is the best Viral TIKTOK Korean Cleansing Oils & Cleansers for you? (NOT sponsored)
"Between these I feel like this one was the most favorite, it has 33 percent centella which makes your skin calm down, and it bubbles the most well. It's gold colored and very soft, so hypoallergenic, and after you wash it out it doesn't dry out your skin. I kind of understand the hype, it's a low acidic cleansing foam, some products are very slippery but this one isn't that slippery. I'd recommend it to all skin types."

"I landed on the Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Ampoule Foam. This is their cleanser. There's nothing really bad about it necessarily, but it's actually just a little bit stripping for my skin. It just leaves my skin a little dry, a little tight. With continuous use, it would probably create some irritation and dehydration on my skin that would cause some inflammation, redness, itchiness. [...] I just wasn't really impressed with this cleanser."

"I love this product. This is fragrance free as well. I would say this is a lovely cleanser if you have dry, damaged skin barrier."

"It can just be a little bit intense on the skin so a tiny amount will do everything you need and one of these will last me a whole winter season. I actually bought this as part of a double cleanse kit that Skin1004 do. [...] The kit was like £20 I think so this is somewhere in the region of £10, super affordable as a cleanser. Honestly one of the least stripping and drying I've ever found, perfect cleanser for dry skin."

"The Skin1004 ampoule foam is a little drying in my opinion."
~Yay
"It foams up slightly and rinses off really well, makes me feel like my skin's moisturized afterwards. It does clean the oil off and it foams really nicely but it's not stripping, it doesn't have really harsh surfactants in it. It foams up really nicely and that's because it's got two main surfactants, sodium cocoyl isethionate and sodium methyl cocoyl taurate, these are two surfactants that give a really nice luxurious dense foam. This gives the nice foam at a pH of about 5.5."

"As opposed to other cleansers that I've recommended, this one is actually quite a bit more hydrating. But as someone who struggles with a lot of oiliness across my face, this one has always done a lovely job of getting the cleansing done and leaving my skin really hydrated afterwards. This one definitely has a cult following and it took me a while to jump on the train of the hype around this product, but I will say it's such a good staple cleanser in your routine to get you that gentle care."

"Foam cleansers are very hit or miss to me because I like a little bit of frothiness, [...] that satisfying foam, but with foam cleansers a lot of times I can just get overwhelmed and it feels like it gets so foamy that it doesn't properly cleanse my skin. But if there's one thing I'm feeling right now, my skin is cleansed. [...] It feels like my skin feels good, a little bit dry."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
