Cassandra Bankson has looked at a lot of products for dry skin. She reviewed more than 130 of them and approved most, with the rest split fairly evenly between mixed takes and skips. That works out to an approval rate of 72%. Her record shows a pretty clear through-line: she rewards products that actually repair the skin barrier and skips anything she thinks is charging for the name rather than the formula.
What does Cassandra Bankson recommend for dry skin?
The products she keeps coming back to share a few things. They tend to layer hydration using multiple forms of hyaluronic acid, so some sits on the skin's surface and some goes a little deeper. She called out the Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Water Sleeping Mask for doing exactly this, adding that its ceramides and beta glucans help the barrier hold onto moisture overnight. Barrier-supporting ingredients are a big deal to her. She approved the Pacifica Vegan Ceramide Extra Gentle Face Wash specifically because it cleanses without stripping those lipids away. She rated the Summer Fridays Dream Oasis Deep Hydration Serum for having squalane, ceramides, oat and amino acids. Those amino acids, she noted, can help with cellular signaling and may support collagen production over time. Fragrance-free formulas come up again and again in her approvals. She singled out the Pacifica Ceramide Hydration Full Under Eye and Smile Line Jelly Patches for being fragrance-free with ceramides and marshmallow. Those two things together, she said, make them safe for sensitive skin around the eye area.
Cassandra Bankson's dry skin picks, in her words
"I absolutely love this Peptide Glazing Fluid. You can see it leaves such a dewy glowy look on the skin and has peptides and marula oil and hyaluronic acid so it has all these really beautiful amazing ingredients that are great for hydration."
"Oh my god, I never thought I would say this, but Pacifica has come through with an eye product I really really like. [...] These right here are from Pacifica and these are the Ceramide Hydration Full Under Eye and Smile Line Jelly Patches. They actually come with multiple in here and these are so fun to use. [...] Oh my god, these are some of the most hydrating, the most fulfilling, the most jelly chilling eye masks you can use. If you have sensitive skin, they are phenomenal."
"My absolute favorite sleeping mask with hyaluronic acid for oily acne-prone skin has to be the one from Isntree. I love it so much that [...] I used it all up and I'm waiting for my next shipment. [...] The Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Water Sleeping Mask is amazing for skin that is acne-prone, whether you are dry and acne-prone or oily and acne-prone. This formula doesn't over-saturate the skin or make you feel overly greasy, but it actually supports the skin with really wonderful ingredients."
"All three of these together make a really nice ceramide blend. This formula actually has a bit of jojoba oil in it, which is maybe why I love it so much. [...] It doesn't leave the skin overly greasy and it's really nice and lightweight. If you tried CeraVe and you were like I don't understand the hype behind this, [...] you might love this. [...] James Welsh is the reason I started trying and using this, and for my skin type which is oily prone and acne prone, I freaking love this."
"This formula also has aloe, it has shea butter, this has sunflower, this has rice, sweet almond. It's super luxurious, it is super nourishing and it kind of melts into your skin and just protects it without leaving you sticky. I get a lot of hangnails, I wash my hands like fifty times a day on some occasions, and so I tend to get really dry cuticles and really dry nails. This is so hydrating and moisturizing, and I absolutely love this and it doesn't leave me oily."
"We want to build that barrier back. [...] Even though this doesn't have an acne active inside of it, this is excellent for dry skin, it's not going to irritate acne and it helps to replenish some of those ceramides, some of that moisture. It's sensitive skin type approved, fragrance free, dermatologist tested. [...] This is one of my favorite Pacifica products hands down, but especially if you're struggling with dry skin, this is going to be a lifesaver."

What has Cassandra Bankson skipped for dry skin?
Price versus ingredients is the clearest pattern in her skips. La Mer's Concentrate Serum came in at $400 for one ounce, and she said the ingredients were exactly what you would find in any good moisturizer. In her view, the price was paying for the brand, not the formula. Outside of pricing, she also skipped products where the formula itself let her down. The Biossance Squalane + Phytoretinol Serum she called one of her least favourites ever, saying it burned her face. The Dior Prestige Advanced Serum she passed on for relying too heavily on fragrance when better-formulated, cheaper alternatives exist.
"This one is 285 dollars for 0.5 fluid ounces. I'm sorry we don't all have Disney Channel kind of money, this is ridiculous. [...] One of the ingredients is love in a mist. Love in a mist, what the f is that kind of ingredient [...] and why does it cost 300? This is [...] marketing and 300 of I'm a celebrity and have rich money. [...] This is wiping the sunscreen off from the eye area, of which arguably the sunscreen would be doing more for the under eye area instead."
"This is called the Concentrate Serum and it's 400 bucks, 400 dollars for one ounce, for 30 milliliters. [...] We have cyclopentasiloxane, [...] algae extract, [...] glycerin, [...] dimethicone, all of the basics that you would find in a good moisturizer, sesame seed oil, sweet almond oil, sunflower oil, all of this is lovely but none of this is worth 400 dollars."
"This Squalane Phytoretinol serum is absolute trash. This is one of my least favorite products from Biossance. The product itself smells, it doesn't work well, it burns my freaking face. I absolutely hate this."
"Dior Prestige Creme is 420 dollars for 1.7 fluid ounces with just glycerin, jojoba esters, oat kernel, shea butter, urea, adenosine, and lactic acid. [...] You can get a Dermalogica moisturizer for 40 to 60 dollars or the Inky List urea moisturizer for 20 dollars and save yourself 380 bucks. It has some peptides like Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 but The Ordinary charges only [...] 11 to 15 dollars for the same thing."
What should you take from Cassandra Bankson's picks?
Cassandra Bankson's dry-skin record is generous but not uncritical. She approved about seven in ten of what she tested and named more than 10 winners, among them the Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Water Sleeping Mask, the Pacifica Ceramide Hydration Full Under Eye and Smile Line Jelly Patches, and Biossance Squalane Omega Repair Cream. Her consistent message is that a great dry-skin product repairs the barrier with ceramides and layers hydration intelligently. She is especially direct about luxury pricing: if the ingredient list does not justify the cost, she says so plainly and points toward what she thinks works better for less.
