Cassandra Bankson has reviewed more than 120 sensitive skin products and approved most of them. Her approval rate in this category is 82%, and the rest splits into some mixed takes and only a small number of skips. Her skips came with clear, specific reasoning. Knowing why she passed on them is just as useful as knowing what she liked.
What does Cassandra Bankson recommend for sensitive skin?
What she keeps coming back to is real hydration paired with gentleness. She backs barrier-supporting ingredients like ceramides, squalane, and omega fatty acids. These lock in moisture and stop the skin losing water from the inside out. She also leans toward PHAs. PHAs are large exfoliant molecules that stay on top of the skin rather than sinking in. They exfoliate without stripping moisture, which makes them kinder to sensitive or dry skin than glycolic acid. Sunscreens matter a lot to her too. She consistently sides with Korean formulas, which she finds avoid both the greasy feel and the white cast that Western mineral sunscreens often leave.
Cassandra Bankson's sensitive skin picks, in her words
"Oh my god, I never thought I would say this, but Pacifica has come through with an eye product I really really like. [...] These right here are from Pacifica and these are the Ceramide Hydration Full Under Eye and Smile Line Jelly Patches. They actually come with multiple in here and these are so fun to use. [...] Oh my god, these are some of the most hydrating, the most fulfilling, the most jelly chilling eye masks you can use. If you have sensitive skin, they are phenomenal."
"This is probably my favorite azelaic acid product, and this is from Skin Fix. This is a cleanser, and yes, this works for rosacea. This works for fungal acne, which doesn't actually exist. It's called pityriasis folliculitis or malassezia yeast that causes this fungal infection. This product was literally created to help with all three. This is a really beautiful pink wash. I've been using this non-stop. I actually, this is my second bottle."
"My absolute favorite sleeping mask with hyaluronic acid for oily acne-prone skin has to be the one from Isntree. I love it so much that [...] I used it all up and I'm waiting for my next shipment. [...] The Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Water Sleeping Mask is amazing for skin that is acne-prone, whether you are dry and acne-prone or oily and acne-prone. This formula doesn't over-saturate the skin or make you feel overly greasy, but it actually supports the skin with really wonderful ingredients."
"If you're looking for something really lightweight that really just adds a boost to your skincare routine morning or evening that just goes on so nicely. It supports your sunscreen. It soaks in nice. It just feels so lovely on skin and it gives you that bounce and that boost. Like literally sit there and drink your green tea and put this on your face at the same time. Not to mention green tea has caffeine which can vasoconstrict and help with redness."
"We want to build that barrier back. [...] Even though this doesn't have an acne active inside of it, this is excellent for dry skin, it's not going to irritate acne and it helps to replenish some of those ceramides, some of that moisture. It's sensitive skin type approved, fragrance free, dermatologist tested. [...] This is one of my favorite Pacifica products hands down, but especially if you're struggling with dry skin, this is going to be a lifesaver."
"Summer Fridays also came out with a new product called Dream Oasis Deep Hydration Serum and this is kind of like what I wanted the omega water cream to be. I'm still going to be testing this out, but this beautiful little bottle reminds me of the Malibu coastline. The entire Summer Fridays line is pretty fantastic. [...] This serum is almost like the result that you ask for from a moisturizer but in serum form. You can really easily layer this under a sunscreen."
How many products has Cassandra Bankson reviewed for sensitive skin?
Cassandra Bankson has reviewed 119 products for sensitive skin, for an approval rate of 82%. 97 approved, 16 mixed, and 6 skipped.
What has Cassandra Bankson skipped for sensitive skin?
Two of her skips stand out for specific, useful reasons. She skipped Blue Lizard Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 because it leaves a cast that turns purple on darker skin tones. It goes on smoothly and feels moisturising, but that colour shift is a real problem. She also skipped COSRX Advanced Snail 92 All in One Cream. It is not about the snail mucin trend itself. The problem is that people with dust mite or crustacean allergies can have real reactions to it. She also found no medical studies backing the popular claims that it helps with eczema, blemishes, redness, or dryness.
"This Squalane Phytoretinol serum is absolute trash. This is one of my least favorite products from Biossance. The product itself smells, it doesn't work well, it burns my freaking face. I absolutely hate this."
"Drunk Elephant's marula oil is $68 to $78. Is it any cheaper in quality? Is it worse? No, it's the exact same stuff, just without the fancy packaging and fancy marketing."
"I had purchased like eight of the Purito sunscreens because everyone was like, listen, tell a green level unscented SPF 50 PA+ is the best, and then we all found out that because of the manufacturer being a shady shady liar liar pants on fire, this wasn't actually the SPF 50 that they claimed."
"This Cleansing Emulsion is actually a decent cleanser with antioxidants, but it's not worth €70. [...] You can get something like this for $10. The main ingredients are just grapefruit water, regular water, glycerin, and various plant extracts that cost pennies. I don't understand why they're charging this kind of money for ingredients that are this inexpensive."
