★ Best micellar water
Sensibio H2O Micellar Water
Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water
Brought up 19 times
I still think the Bioderma one is the best one. [...] In rank order, Bioderma, Garnier, and then far at the end is Mustela.
★ Best lightweight hydrating moisturizer
Ultra Facial Cream
Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream
Brought up 13 times
Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream hugs your skin nicely. It's extremely hydrating and I absolutely love it.
★ Best occlusive moisturizer
Original Healing Jelly
Vaseline Original Healing Jelly
Brought up 13 times
Vaseline, the baby jars, the tinier ones, [...] are even better. [...] I love this stuff, this will save your skin. [...] You can use it on your cuticles to help lock in moisture to avoid cuticular damage, and you can also use it as a final step, basting your face completely over your moisturizer.
★ Best glycolic acid serum
Revitalift 10% Glycolic Acid Serum
L'Oreal Revitalift 10% Glycolic Acid Serum
Brought up 12 times
I love L'Oreal's 10 glycolic acid which is also on a glycerin base. I hate their dropper but I replaced the dropper with a pump and it's a very nice one because there's a lot of play time to very little product and you can get a lot of coverage and you don't necessarily have to wash this one off.
★ Best azelaic acid for melasma
Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%
The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%
Brought up 10 times
The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension 15 percent, also known as Ganesha, is amazing. I usually reserve azelaic acid, especially for melasma at 15 percent which is prescription, and it tends not to feel the way they formulated that prescription because it's a single ingredient one. It's amazing.
★ Best hydrating serum
Calm + Restore Triple Oat Serum
Aveeno Calm + Restore Triple Oat Serum
Brought up 8 times
My favorite, my Holy Grail hydrating serum is going to be Aveeno's Calm and Restore. It is one of the best calming agents out there. [...] It is a beautiful glycerin-based hydrating serum fortified with oats.

Dr. Shereene Idriss: Nay vs gurus 62% Yay
So pore clearing at best should be done in the hands of a professional or at home through chemical exfoliation, not physical one or not manually scraped out. My verdict is skip this baby. You're better off using a chemical exfoliant with salicylic acid or if you're very sensitive, mandelic acid or seeing a derm or an esthetician who knows your skin best.
Dr. Shereene Idriss: Nay vs gurus 60% Yay
I do not like the ones with darts. Whenever I see micro darts and somebody who's putting it on an inflamed pimple or blemish, even though the idea is nice that yes it's going to help treat dark spots especially if it does have any sort of active ingredient in it, the darts itself can be extremely irritating and can worsen the marks. So not something that I love, especially if you're sensitive.
Dr. Shereene Idriss: Nay vs gurus 66% Yay
These are by Starface and they have salicylic acid. Putting salicylic acid in close contact and closed contact with a patch for a very long period of time can be irritating to your skin and can be drying, so it's not necessarily my favorite.
Dr. Shereene Idriss: Nay vs gurus 69% Yay
If you live in Europe and you're trying face basting with Sudocrem, just be careful because it has essential oils. This one can be a little bit irritating, believe it or not, if you are sensitive.

"The Clarins double serum belongs in this conversation. If you know me, you know that I love this formula. It is a dual face formula so you're combining a water phase with a lipid fatty phase. You're getting that hydration plus the nourishment in one. You have in this formula humectants like glycerin that is helping to pull water into your skin. Then squalane and emollient helping to give your skin back some of that softness and cushion that it has lost."

"But it feels like gritty little speckles when you apply it, which has been my biggest complaint about this form over the years. If you're using this free form, I'd recommend applying it on damp skin first and letting it sit for a minute or two before going in with your retinoid."

"The classic that everybody loves is Dr. Jart+ Cicapair Tiger Grass Serum. This is one that has helped many of you, and I know this for a fact because you guys have messaged me to tell me that you've loved this recommendation. "Peter Thomas Roth has his Peptide Skin Injection Amplified Wrinkle Fix Refillable Serum. This is a combination of Matrixyl and Argireline. So it's going to help with collagen production, but it's also going to help to minimize the muscle movement and the look of fine lines in the now. So you're going to get smoothing and firming effects."

"I absolutely love this vitamin C serum. It's extremely affordable. It is the active form of vitamin C and it comes in a pump. So you're not dealing with a dropper and it's not going to oxidize fast. [...] If you've ever bought a skin care product with vitamin C, it turns brown pretty quick and that just means it's oxidized. We got to toss it. It's not going to work. At least here it's in a pump."

"This one is in the exact same ratio as the C ferulic at the 15%, 1%, and .5%. But I also want you guys to keep in mind that ingredients do not make a recipe. Just keep that in mind if you are going to try it. [...] It has ascorbic acid. It may be tempting, but it can also be extremely irritating and it might not be super stable and only time will tell. If you have melasma, I would just approach all of these very, very, very conservatively because you don't want to irritate or inflame your skin."

"This is their multi-peptide and growth factor advanced lifting serum which I have spoken to you guys about in the past. This is not from humans. This is like I said biomimetic lab synthesized epidermal growth factors. In fact, they have their 3% SH oligopeptide in it that helps with your overall texture and smoothness and it does give you a little bit of a firming effect. It also has other antioxidants in it and other peptides as well which helps in the long term as well. It's pricey."

"She has her Sophie Pavit mandelic clearing serum which usually retails for $54, it is currently on sale. It is a gentle chemical exfoliant with mandelic acid, so if you are on the sensitive end of the spectrum, it's a great one to try out, especially if you want to start exfoliating but you cannot tolerate something stronger like glycolic acid. [...] It is great for lip basting because again it is a gentler AHA, but it's also really good for sensitive skin as it is also fragrance-free."

"This is Peach Slices azelaic acid serum with 10% azelaic acid. If you have hyperpigmentation, brown spots, discoloration, I'd prefer you go stronger and use a prescription azelaic acid at 15%, but at 10% it is very nicely formulated. It doesn't seem to peel, it doesn't have that powdery aftertaste to it, and not only does this have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, it has a slightly green tint to help reduce visible redness, so this is a win win win."

"The In Beauty Project Elastic Skin Serum is a more affordable option [...] for 42 bucks and it has encapsulated vegan growth factors at 6%, it also has copper and biohacking peptides. [...] Copper peptides help with anti-inflammatory effects and help with the aging process. Just don't use this in the same routine as your ascorbic acid. You can probably use it with Ester vitamin C, so if you're using an active vitamin C [...] use this at night and use the active vitamin C in the morning."

If you are at a wit's end and you have really bad melasma and you're trying to add every possible product on the market and you're not reactive to niacinamide, adding this with a complete serum or something that is a little bit more potent is a great add-on. "The name tells you what it does: it helps to calm your barrier and to repair your barrier. It has vitamin B12, which helps to support your skin barrier by reducing dryness and visible redness. It also has centella asiatica and gallic acid. "What I do not agree with is their marketing in terms of calling it a retinol alternative, I think that is just a little bit misleading. It is made up of upcycled cranberry extract which acts as a barrier supporter to give you smoother looking skin and it's a nice antioxidant. There's also sea fennel in here, a marine botanical that helps with a natural turnover process of your skin cells. Plus it has silk proteins which helps to visibly diminish the look of fine lines, giving a plumping effect."

"It has pumice buffing beads, it's borderline physical. Your body can tolerate this but never your face. Some people might think it's a great dupe to use as a physical exfoliant for the face, but the reality is you do not want to do that, especially if you are prone to breakouts on your face, because your face is more sensitive and you'll get micro tears and you'll make the breakouts more inflamed and you'll get worsening of your scars."

Squalane is an emollient that attracts and locks in moisture and it prevents transepidermal water loss. Sulfur is a great ingredient for people who have oily inflammatory acne because not only does it absorb [...] excess oil, but it also debrides the dead skin cells that are usually clogging your pores, leading to more blackheads and white heads. [...] This one does not stink."

"I like this cleanser, I've always liked it. It's a centella and green tea cleanser that is really nice because centella, although I did say I don't love actives in cleansers, has calming ingredients as does green tea. I would suggest if you are going to use this, let it sit on your face for a few minutes [...] and then wash it off, [...] otherwise [...] you're wasting your parents' hard-earned cash or your own hard-earned cash."

"I love glycolic acid. Glycolic acid exfoliates as well, but it's also more geared towards anti-aging, which is basically [...] helping produce more collagen and helping even out your skin tone over time. This is a good option if you don't have oily skin or if you can't tolerate salicylic acid."

"This is a 7% glycolic acid and it works like magic. The nozzle top really helps to get it into the areas that you want to apply it on your scalp. You let it sit before you shower, allowing the glycolic acid [...] to dissolve those bonds between the dead skin cells and help your skin exfoliate itself, but also hydrate your scalp in the process."

"From a device standpoint, [...] the one at Sephora that I would probably recommend is probably the HigherDose Red Light Therapy Mask. If you're going to do it, I will say if you have melasma like me, just avoid it. It's not worth it. I do not use a red light LED because it wakes up my spots and it makes me very unhappy."

"NuFACE Zip microcurrent devices help to stimulate collagen production by delivering microcurrent to your skin. It's going to help support the structure of your mouth by doing it on your upper lip and your lower lip and even sometimes over your lips, allowing your muscles to gently contract in the process. It can make a difference in the long run by creating that support that your mouth needs."

"Red light LED definitely has anti-inflammatory effects and helps to calm the skin down, especially if you have breakouts. I have this device in my office, but I am personally a little skeptical of it because it is so small. For the LED lights to be effective you have to have it at the right density. [...] It looks very cool and it's a cool gadget to have on your shelf and to use in a video, but how much does it actually help? I am skeptical."

"I usually recommend for an at home laser device the Tria laser which is a real diode laser. [...] This particular laser is the reason I recommend it is it also has a three time contact sensor. So it's going to make sure that you have the right skin contact, there's no inappropriate contact with your skin and you're targeting the right target before it shoots the laser, which adds a couple of security checks for you."

"Plus, the fit of the mask is super flexible and very comfortable and easy to use on your face. What I love the most about this company [...] is the quality control is topnotch. In order for them to achieve target precision, Current Body literally checks every single bulb and only approves one out of every four bulbs that they use in the Series 2 masks. I would recommend using this for fine lines and wrinkles and any signs of aging, usually appearing in your late 20s to mid30s."

"I'm going to use the hypochlorous acid to kind of sprit on my face, this is by Tower 28. I do think it's a good habit to have especially if you're somebody who sweats a lot post gym. If you're prone to any sort of acne on your chest or back, using the hypochlorous acid can definitely be very helpful. It is antibacterial and has anti-inflammatory effects as well, and just given that my skin is acting up, I've been under a lot of stress, good thing to kind of just help reset."
